New TactCat 897 launch

August 8, 2017 Albear Montocchio

Designed by Icarus Marine and built by Skeg Product Development in Cape Town South Africa.
The 8.5mtr “Tactcat” 897 is a hydrofoil supported catamaran purpose built tender for the new Kenyan Fisheries Offshore Patrol Vessel recently
launched in Bangladesh. TactCat 897’s will be used to perform both a general tender role as well as interception and boarding missions.
Twin Volvo D4-300HP engines direct drive the Twin HJ213 jets through double CV joints providing a maximum speed of 45 knots meeting the design specification.
The HJ213’s were specified for this build based on their resistance to cavitation allowing full power to be applied from low speed for good
acceleration and high speed performance efficiency in order to reach top speed of 45 knots.
Weight was also a strict requirement and in this regard the HJ213 jets offered the lowest combined weight for jet and controls in comparison to
competitors making HamiltonJet the easy choice for the designer & boat builder.
As the “Tactcat” was the first vessel ever built by Skeg it was important that the Jet installation be as simple as possible, and with that the HamiltonJet which incorporates all the hydraulic and controls in the jet made the installation as trouble free and easy as possible.
